HIV SEMINAR
The Health Program Officer has demonstrated the project of Zinduka and the activities to be carried on 10th, January 2012. The activities involved 40 coaches where by the implementation areas are going to be the same as used formerly. No allowance is going to be provided. 





Program Overviews:

Health program was established to address the health issues on HIV and AIDS/STI based on three major thematic areas which are prevention, Care and support People living with HIV and AIDS and mitigation in the society.
IDYDC has been receiving support from different partners like: Family health International, Football for Hope movements, USAID, Engender Health-CHAMPION project, International Youth Foundation, GrassrootSoccer, and FHI-Tunajali project.
IDYDC is also providing awareness and knowledge on the issue of use of Alcohol harm, Drug s abuse and Tobacco effects among Youths and other community members with support from IOGT-NTO movement.


Services provided include education, Counseling, Psychosocial, legal Aid, Spiritual and Advocacy. Approaches used to reach the targeted group is through sports especially Football and Netball, workshops and conferences, meetings, drama theatre, and public awareness through PA syteams.
IDYDC has more than 700 volunteer peer educators working at ward level in Iringa region i.e. Ludewa, Makete, Njombe, Mufindi, Kilolo, Iringa rural and Iringa Urban. Maximum volunteers per district are 100 youths.
(i).Edu Sport project:
IDYDC Edu-sport approach uses   the power of Football to provide HIV and AIDS prevention education and support Youth ages 10-24 years old  in order to reduce new HIV rates. An IDYDC football coach teaches youth to avoid infections and provides continual support through its Health professionals.


IDYDC Edu-sport approach is a unique, holistic approach offers the long training and support necessary to create and sustain behavior social change. The program using football as” analogy to life “Experts teach master coaches and coaches and coaches teach youth players (participants) about the RISK of HIV infection, Alcohol, Drugs and other substance abuse as well as preventive measures and Life Skills.
Top on that, IDYDC since started the program more than 21,000 Youth have graduated the program
(ii).ZINDUKA kupitia SOKA program
ZINDUKA program originated from Edu-sport program .ZINDUKA is wake up and use sports as a vehicle to deliver HIV /AIDS education and Life skills to Young people ages 10-14 years old.  The name ZINDUKA encourages young people to” Get up, Move your move, and Make your choices through the power of SOKA”

The abbreviation of “SOKA” also as meaning: S = Stadi (Skills), O = Ongea (speak out), K = Kinga (protect/prevent), and A = Afya (Health). Together the word SOKA represents the philosophy behind the ZINDUKA program which is to build Youth new HIV prevention knowledge and skills through Soccer.

The ZINDUKA project empowers community role models to deliver an activities based curriculum –coach’s guide that uses analogies and language from the game of Soccer to deliver key messages and conversations to promote healthy, responsible behavior among Iringa and Tanzanian young people.

 Scope of work, 
Community role models are trained as ZINDUKA master and coaches to deliver ZINDUKA interventions to young people (Boys and Girls) ages 10 – 14 years old.
 

(iii).Home Based Care (HBC) project:
Since 1994 health program has been experienced and engaged  in support of Orphans children especial in schools , drop out  and street children. In 2000 the program come bigger and started to provide services to people Living with HIV, by implementing national strategic plan which lies on three thematic areas which are.
(a)Prevention,
(b)Care and support
(c)Impact mitigation
Activities performing under HBC program:
  • Provide support and services to people living with HIV and orphans vulnerable children.
  • Home visit to people living with HIV and AIDS.
  • Referral for people living with HIV to medical care.
  •  Implement supportive supervision with Government Officials.
  •  Submission of monthly reports to donor agent and Government officials.
  •  Provide Education to community member on the issue of stigma and discrimination for people living with HIV and AIDS.
  • Support Orphans and Vulnerable Children for school fees for secondary schools.
(iv).CHAMPION Program.
(Channelling Men’s Positive Involvement in the National HIV Response)
The project based on the men as partner’s initiative that has been implemented in Iringa Tanzania CHAMPION bringing all of the components together.
The principal goal is to promote National dialogue about gender equitable beliefs and behaviors’ and in doing so, reduce the vulnerability of men, women, and families to AIDS and promote Reproductive Health.

Approach.
  • Help men understand how current gender and social norms increase risk for themselves and their partner.

  • Educate and mobilize men’s peers, families and communities to support male involvement.
  • To train health care providers to promote positive health in men’s participation.
  • Strengthen organizational programs on HIV prevention and RH.
  • Reform laws and policies that positively transform the social environment.
